More Props To The Dropp! Our list of props continues on in this section with "micro-props", not that those listed here are less relevant, it's just that we've distilled our props for them down in to a concentrated form of propulism.
Norman Whitfield Anyone who can get a major group ( The Temptations) to utter the phrase "Great goo ga mooga can't you here me talking to Ya"( on "Ball of Confusion") and get a top 40 hit out of it is ok by us! Check out his skills on The Temptations , Undisputed Truth, and Rose Royce Tracks that he produced. " Masterpiece" is just that and "Red Riding Hood" by the Undisputed Truth are Planet Bass faves. Another victim of the Multivenomous Disco-Monster Plague.
The Commodores Before Lionel Ritchie was captured by the Ceramic Penguin and forced to write songs like "Lady" for Kenny Rogers he was very funky. Check out the "Hot On The Tracks, Commodores and the Live album for some of the best southern fried funk this side of the Bar-Kays.
Curtis Mayfield Superfly is the standard for all soundtracks and "Soul" Music period. If you don't own a copy of this album do yourself a favor and get it immediately. Mr.Mayfield always said what he wanted to say in his songs and had his own label! Cameo If your idea of Cameo is "Word Up" then we may have to ask you to leave, well ok you can stay but know this, they are one of the few acts to escape the clutches of the evil Disco-Monster ( we really think that " Find My Way" some sort of sick joke). That being said ,Cameo should actually have their own page here on the Planet Bass-cause they are another self contained original! From "Cardiac Arrest" until In "The Face of The Funk" (minus" Emotional Violence" and "Real Men Wear Black") Larry Blackmon and company rock the beat for real! Keep it Hot, We All know Who We are, It's Serious, Sparkle, Skin I'm In, Candy, I Never Knew, ... Just go out and get them all! Sly Stone The perfect example of what not to do in this business. Sly is an originator and an innovator. Search out the "Anthology" collection and enjoy. Kool and The Gang We jumped on every Kool and the Gang album as soon as it came out ... that is until they were attacked by the Disco-Monster (Open Sesame) and before they could finish rehab were engulfed by the Ceramic Penguin (Ladies Night, Jo-Anna). We still haven't forgiven them for "Celebramos".
Stevie Wonder A musical genius. Extra-Props for telling Mr.Gordy that I'll do it my way and you'll pay me a truck load of cash for it and be happy that I'm not asking for a freighter load! Jimmy Castor and the Castor Bunch Check out the E-man when you want to groove! The album "E-MAN- Grooving" is a classic! The E man does it all! Search out the vinyl classics on Atlantic , if you can, stay away from the very weak Cd on Rhino -"Best-Of " and seek out all of the vinyl on The Castor Bunch . Mr. Castor has a sense of humor and therefore he is enshrined on the Planet Bass.
Jimi Hendrix Before Chuck D and the Bomb Squad Brought the noize Mr. Hendrix invented tha noize!
